## ## Longtime Minnesota lawmaker Tom Rukavina dies at 68
BREAKING: Sad news from the Minnesota political world. Legendary state lawmaker Tom Rukavina died today after a long illness. The DFLer from Virginia served 26 years in the Minnesota House and once ran for governor. He was known as a passionate debater on the MN House floor.
Sources tell me Rukavina was at the U of M hospitals for a bone marrow transplant to treat leukemia. He died this morning on the eve of the 2019 Minnesota Legislative session.
In a statement, DFL chairman Ken Martin said he was saddened by the news.
“As a longtime representative in the Minnesota Legislature, Tom was a bulldog for, not only his constituents on the Iron Range, but all of the working men and women in Minnesota,” the statement read in part.
“Tom Rukavina was known for his honesty, his authenticity, and his advocacy for those trying to build a better life for their families. Today Minnesota lost a one of a kind individual who left a deep impression on everyone who knew him. My thoughts and best wishes are with his entire family.”
